About Peak Ecology

Peak Ecology Limited was started in 2006 by Jonathan Brickland and Dr Mark Webb. Mark left the company in 2014 and Jonathan is taking the company forwards as the sole Director. Prior to setting up Peak Ecology Jonathan worked as National Ecologist with British Waterways (now The Canal & River Trust) and has also worked for the Environment Agency and Pond Conservation.

In 2012 Peak Ecology acquired two established ecology businesses in Scotland, Lutra Ecological Services and the Natural Resource Consultancy. We have been appointed to Forestry Commission Scotland’s ecological framework and Scottish Natural Heritage’s Site Condition Monitoring framework and our portfolio of projects in Scotland continues to grow.

Our Mission is to provide clear, high quality and affordable ecological advice to public and private sector clients throughout Britain.

Currently, we have a team of 15 professional ecologists working out of three offices in Bakewell (Derbyshire, Head Office), Carrutherstown (Dumfries & Galloway) and Auchincruive (Strathclyde), although our team expands significantly with short-term contract staff over the spring and summer months.

Our clients include wind farm developers, energy companies, forestry companies, quarries and aggregates companies, property developers and their agents, planning consultants, architects and landscape architects, engineering and multi-disciplinary consultants, local authorities, government agencies, National Park Authorities, public bodies and NGOs.

Our survey capabilities include Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, NVC and detailed botanical assessments, and a wide range of surveys for animal species and groups, including birds, bats, reptiles and amphibians, mammals and others. Additionally, we have notable expertise in Geographical Information Systems, Collision Risk Assessment modelling, BREEAM assessment and Ecological Impact Assessment.

Our Vision is that by 2016 Peak Ecology will be a leading UK provider of pragmatic, business-focused ecological advice and services to the  forestry, quarrying, renewable energy and development sectors.

Working safely to high professional standards is of the utmost importance to Peak Ecology. To that extent, we are audited and accredited under the UVDB Verify scheme administered by Achilles which appraises health and safety, environmental performance and quality. Further, we are certified under the ISO: 9001 quality assurance scheme.
