Dr. Mark Webb BSc (Hons), PhD, MIEEM, CEnv, Director.

Mark has over ten years postdoctoral experience in applied ecology, split evenly between the university and consultancy sectors. He graduated with a BSc in Environmental Science from Coventry University in 1989. After two years overseas, Mark went on to study for a PhD investigating the ecology and conservation of wetland butterflies in Britain and The Netherlands. This was obtained from Keele University in 1995, in conjunction with English Nature and the Dutch Butterfly Foundation. Mark then spent 5 years as Lecturer in Applied Ecology at Staffordshire University, where he established and ran the successful MSc in Habitat Creation and Management.

In June 2000, Mark moved into ecological consultancy with Penny Anderson Associates Limited, where he was Senior Ecologist, Principal Ecologist and then Associate Director. His responsibilities at PAA encompassed project management; business planning and development; recruitment and training and giving evidence as an expert witness at Public Inquiries.

Mark’s project management experience primarily pertains to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), including transport infrastructure (roads, railways, airports), housing, and mineral extraction. Mark also has wide-ranging experience in the design and implementation of protected species mitigation and compensation schemes, and is particularly interested in zoology, including reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and invertebrates. He holds English Nature (All Counties) survey licences to work with sand lizards, great crested newts, Atlantic stream crayfish, lesser silver water beetles and southern damselflies.

Mark also contributes to environmental training for the Peak National Park training centre at Losehill Hall, the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and others. He is a Chartered Environmentalist and a full member of the IEEM, and sits on their national Training, Education and Career Development Committee.
