Services | Ecological Clerk of Works

Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is an important role on any development site where there is need for supervision of works as part of a planning condition or European Protected Species (EPS) licence. It requires the knowledge of potential issues that can arise on a working site and the experience to be able to deal with them if they occur.

The role is often defined in a site-specific working Method Statement, where constraints to works on site, timing of works, tool selection and working procedures are clearly set out before works commence. An ECoW will often outline the Method Statement to contractors and clients in a Toolbox Talk immediately prior to the commencement of works. Outside of direct on-site supervision of works the ECoW will be available as the first point of contact for any ecological issues, and available to attend regular meetings to ensure ecological issues are resolved and works can continue whilst remaining compliant with wildlife legislation.
