Protected Species | Terrestrial Invertebrates

Peak Ecology has the capacity to undertake a series of terrestrial invertebrate surveys covering many invertebrate groups. However, the term ‘terrestrial invertebrates’ covers a wide range and diverse groups of animals that often require an equally diverse range of survey protocols. At Peak Ecology we have a small but capable team of invertebrate specialists that can undertake surveys for a range of these species groups as well as for many individual species. Where Peak Ecology cannot provide a specific survey or assessment, we have a group of trusted specialist entomologists who we work with on a sub-consultant basis.

Terrestrial invertebrates like most animal groups can be seriously impacted upon by development, therefore species reports and mitigation plans may be required. Terrestrial invertebrate surveys can provide detailed information on species that are either absent or present at a particular site, or are likely to be using that site, and how they might be using the site. Mitigation plans then provide ways of avoiding, reducing or managing any negative effects to sensitive habitats and species.

Peak Ecology can offer a broad range of services in relation to terrestrial invertebrates, including:

• Initial single site walkover assessments with a specialist appraisal of habitat potential;
• Single or multiple site assessments to determine species composition;
• Common Standards Monitoring (CSM) for designated sites including Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI’s) and Special Areas of Conservation (SAC’s); and
• Individual species surveys, or specific group surveys, including various butterflies, moths, dragonflies/damselflies, crickets/grasshoppers, bumblebees and beetles.
